Syngonium chiapense Variegated is a rare climbing aroid with broad, leathery foliage and dramatic green-and-white sectoral variegation. This established plant is supplied growing on a support in a 1 litre self-watering pot.

Syngonium chiapense Variegated care

• Light: Bright, indirect light supports strong growth. Avoid abrupt exposure to intense direct sun, particularly on white tissue.
• Temperature: Keep warm, ideally at 18–27°C, and protect from cold draughts.
• Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is beneficial, provided there is useful airflow.
• Support: Guide the stem onto the supplied support as it grows to encourage larger, more mature foliage.
• Feeding: Use a balanced fertiliser at a mild rate during active growth.

Using the self-watering pot

Allow the plant to use most of the reservoir before refilling. Do not keep the reservoir permanently full in cool or low-light conditions. Moisture use changes with temperature, root development and season, so check the growing medium as well as the water level. Flush the substrate periodically from above to reduce fertiliser-salt accumulation.

Variegation

Variegation is determined by the active growing tissue and cannot be guaranteed leaf by leaf. Very white leaves contain less chlorophyll and may age more quickly. Provide strong indirect light, but do not increase direct sun in an attempt to force more white growth.

Important information

Syngonium contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and is harmful if chewed or swallowed. Keep away from pets and children.
