Philodendron ‘Strawberry Shake’ is grown for its variable cream, yellow, orange and pink-toned variegation. Good culture is less about forcing colour and more about maintaining enough healthy photosynthetic tissue for sustained growth.

Light
Grow in bright, indirect light. Insufficient light can reduce overall vigour, while abrupt exposure to strong direct sun can damage pale sectors. Increase light gradually when moving a plant from lower-light conditions.
Water and roots
Use a free-draining, aerated substrate and avoid keeping the root zone continuously saturated. Watering frequency should respond to substrate moisture, root mass, temperature and airflow rather than a fixed calendar.
Humidity and airflow

How the variegation behaves
Variegation is not distributed identically through every node. New leaves may therefore differ substantially from the previous leaf. Pink and warm tones can also change as leaves mature, so freshly emerged colour should not be treated as a permanent measurement of variegation. Propagation
Use a stem cutting containing a node and viable axillary bud. Choose sections with a useful balance of pigmented and green stem tissue. After rooting
Once a cutting has produced functioning roots and active shoot growth, avoid abrupt environmental changes. Gradual acclimation to lower humidity or a different substrate reduces stress on newly formed tissues.
Maintaining a valuable mother plant
For repeated propagation, prioritise plant health over taking the maximum number of nodes at once. Retaining adequate leaf area and a functioning root system helps the mother plant rebuild between cutting cycles.
