Microsorum thailandicum ‘Blue Oil Fern’ – 6cm Pot

Microsorum thailandicum, commonly sold as the Blue Oil Fern, is a rare tropical fern admired for its slender, glossy fronds and blue-green iridescent sheen under suitable lighting. This distinctive fern is native to Peninsular Thailand and belongs to the Polypodiaceae family.

Pot size: 6cm nursery pot. Availability: Currently out of stock. Images show two photographed young specimens in different nursery pots (black and terracotta-coloured) to illustrate the species. Pot colour, frond size and appearance may vary with future stock. The blue iridescence is light-dependent and may not be visible in ordinary photographs.

Blue Oil Fern Care

• Light: Low to medium indirect or filtered light. Protect fronds from strong direct sun; iridescence is often most apparent under shaded conditions.
• Watering: Keep the medium lightly and consistently moist without waterlogging. Do not allow the root zone to dry out completely.
• Humidity: Prefers high humidity. A humid plant cabinet or suitable terrarium can help maintain more stable conditions; provide gentle air circulation.
• Temperature: Warm indoor conditions, ideally around 18–26°C, away from cold draughts.
• Substrate: Use a free-draining but moisture-retentive fern mix with fine bark, perlite and sphagnum. Avoid compacted or persistently saturated media.
