Collector Begonias

Light
Provide bright, indirect or appropriately filtered light and acclimate plants gradually to stronger exposure. Useful light supports compact growth and leaf development, while abrupt excessive exposure can damage tender foliage.
Humidity and airflow
Humidity influences leaf water loss, but it should not be treated as a stand-alone target. Temperature, airflow, root condition and substrate drying all interact. Higher humidity also slows evaporation, so irrigation frequency may need to decrease accordingly.
Substrate and roots
Use a substrate that maintains useful moisture while preserving oxygen around the root system. Avoid keeping the root zone persistently saturated simply because Begonias are associated with humid environments.
Choosing a Begonia
Look for active growth, healthy stems or crowns, established roots and foliage appropriate to the cultivar. Pattern and colour naturally vary between leaves, especially in plants selected for unusual pigmentation.
