Monstera White Monster

Monstera White Monster from JungleBotanics is a highly variegated collector Monstera grown for dramatic cream-white and green foliage. Each new leaf can develop a different balance of green and white tissue, so patterning naturally changes as the stem matures.

What is Monstera White Monster?

White Monster is a collector form of variegated Monstera prized for very pale sectoral, marbled and speckled foliage. The white areas contain little or no chlorophyll, so plants with heavy variegation generally grow more slowly and benefit from stable conditions.

Light and variegation

Give bright, indirect light. Strong light can help the plant make efficient use of its remaining green tissue, but intense direct sun can scorch pale sections. The amount and distribution of variegation is controlled by the growing point and can change from leaf to leaf; no exact future pattern can be guaranteed.

Watering and substrate

Use a coarse, aerated aroid substrate that holds some moisture while allowing plenty of oxygen around the roots. Water thoroughly, then allow the upper portion of the substrate to begin drying before watering again. Avoid keeping the root zone continuously saturated.

Temperature and humidity

Warm, stable temperatures and moderate-to-high humidity support active growth. Good air movement is useful, particularly around heavily variegated foliage, but avoid cold draughts and sudden environmental changes.

Propagation

Monstera White Monster is normally propagated from viable stem nodes containing an axillary bud or active growth point. A leaf without a viable node cannot produce a new climbing stem. When propagating highly variegated material, retaining enough green tissue is important because completely white growth has very limited photosynthetic capacity.
