Musa Nono care
- Light: Provide very bright, indirect light. Gentle morning or late-afternoon sun can be introduced gradually, but protect pale areas from intense midday sun.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the upper few centimetres of compost begin to dry. Keep more evenly moist during active summer growth and reduce watering in cooler, darker conditions.
- Humidity: Moderate to high humidity supports clean new growth, alongside good airflow.
- Temperature: Keep warm and protect from cold draughts. Aim to keep it above 15°C throughout the year.
- Soil: Use a rich but free-draining mix that retains some moisture without becoming waterlogged.
- Feeding: Feed regularly with a balanced fertiliser while actively growing; reduce or pause during winter.
Growth and variegation
Musa plants can grow quickly when warm, well lit and well fed. Each new leaf develops its own pattern, so the amount of white or pink cannot be guaranteed. Minor splitting along banana leaves is normal and becomes more likely as foliage enlarges.
UK growing note
Musa ‘Nono’ is tropical and is not hardy in the UK. Grow it indoors or in a heated conservatory and keep it protected from low temperatures.
