Philodendron Strawberry Shake care

Provide bright, indirect light, stable warmth and an aerated root zone. Pale and pink areas contain less chlorophyll than fully green tissue, so maintaining enough productive green foliage supports stronger long-term growth.

Watering and substrate

Use a chunky, well-aerated aroid substrate that retains useful moisture without remaining continuously saturated. Water thoroughly when required, allow excess water to drain, and let the upper portion begin drying before watering again.

Humidity and airflow

Warm, moderately humid conditions support active growth. Higher humidity slows substrate drying, so watering frequency should respond to the actual environment rather than a fixed calendar. Maintain useful airflow around the plant.

How stable is Strawberry Shake variegation?

Future leaves can vary in colour and pattern. One highly variegated leaf does not guarantee the same balance on later growth, and light should not be treated as a guaranteed way to force a particular pattern.

Propagation

Stem propagation requires viable nodal tissue and a healthy growth point. When working with a variegated plant, assess stem and bud patterning as well as the attached leaf. Keep the rooting environment moist but sufficiently aerated.
