Understanding Monstera variegation
Not every variegated Monstera produces its pattern through exactly the same underlying mechanism, and the appearance of one leaf does not guarantee the pattern of the next. Where variegation depends on differently pigmented cell populations within the meristem, the distribution of those tissues through the growing point can influence subsequent leaves and shoots.

Monstera Albo and Aurea
Albo and Aurea are often grouped together simply as variegated Monstera, but collectors should assess each plant on its own stem and growth pattern. A dramatic existing leaf is useful visually, but stem condition, node viability, root health and active growth are more informative when evaluating a plant for continued growth or propagation.

Highly variegated Monstera require enough functional green tissue to support growth. More pale tissue is not automatically better horticulturally, particularly when a plant is young, recently rooted or adapting to a new environment.
